Last week I received an invitation to participate to the Gestalt IT’s first wireless networking-focused Field Day event. It will be held on March 17 and 18, 2011 in San Jose/Silicon Valley California! This unique event brings together innovative IT product vendors and independent thought leaders, allowing them to get to know one another. It is a forum for engagement, education, hands-on experience, and feedback.
Guess what ? I immediately accepted the invitation.
And why did I get invited ? Because of my Twitter presence ! I got a referral, thanks to Jennifer Huber, a wireless expert who lives miles away from me. I encourage you to register to her blog. In the past 9 months I started interact with other WiFi pros and slowly became known by various people in the WiFi industry. Twitter is a great place to stay informed about your area of expertise or other interests and it must be part of your social media strategy. Today I use mostly Twitter, my blog and LinkedIn. I also have a Facebook and Merchant Circle business accounts. Every large corporation invests time in Twitter and blogs and those who don’t will have to catch up someday. All the WiFi vendors I know use Twitter. IBM has a large team dedicated to social media !
Beyond the Virtual World
Well, I never thought I would ever meet in person the Twitter WiFi Pros I interact with, except for Keith Parsons, my AIrMagnet instructor who I met twice before. Keith maintains a feature rich blog where you can learn tons of WiFi tricks and please subscribe to his weekly podcast. I am really exited about getting together with my Twitter partners and exchanging ideas during the Wireless Field Day.
